Firefighters were dispatched to the single-family private dwelling just after midnight, where they encountered smoke pouring from the top floor, according to the City of Peekskill Fire Department. A 10-75 signal was transmitted, summoning additional units as crews made entry.
Heavy flames were discovered in the rear of the building, stretching from the basement to the attic, fire officials said. As the fire’s intensity grew, a second alarm was struck to bring in more personnel.
Despite the scale of the blaze, firefighters managed to knock it down within an hour, authorities said. No injuries were reported, and all units cleared the scene by around 4 a.m.
The fire department expressed gratitude to neighboring agencies that assisted throughout the night, whether at the scene or covering the city’s headquarters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
